Penny Adams and Rosie Barbara are the dynamic duo that founded Counsellors Community Australia, together bringing over 30 years of counselling experience and a passion for creating a supportive and empowering community for Australian counsellors to connect, learn, and grow together.
Penny a seasoned counsellor, supervisor, trainer and author is dedicated to providing accessible and ethical services. She is passionate about supporting counsellors at every stage of their career to grow with confidence and integrity, while Rosie, a clinical counsellor and supervisor, specialises in adolescent counselling with a passion for helping others thrive. She is deeply committed to supporting the growth and development of others, championing professional development and career progression.
Together, they envisioned and created Counsellors Community Australia in 2022, as a thriving hub for professional growth and connection.

The PLUS Community - is different. It's wonderful. I feel like it's a sense of community where people are safe. For example, I think a lot of us get bored with Facebook . . . There's some really great people and a lots of honesty, and I really like that. It just feels so different, you know. It’s the communication, the connection, it is community.
It's just not a name in Facebook - now we know this person. Everything's there. And it's all in the left column, so you can just click on all those things and find exactly what you want. And you've got a good training and resource library going too. But it’s the community, It has all our counselling information that we need. It's counsellors. We still have those conversations. But it's just a more humanised side. It sort of has that real humanised side to community.

The PLUS Community has so much camaraderie in there, you can meet people, you can have conversations with people. There's so much to do in there. There's so much to see, and there's so much training and the organisation is just brilliant. It's easy to to navigate. And I've found it so much fun and so uplifting and there's no derogatory comments and everybody's there to push each other along and share their wisdom and their knowledge and have a laugh, too, which is really good.
It's just a whole community, and in this day and age, community is really, really important, especially with what we do, we need to be able to sit together, talk together, share how we're going on. I think one of the first things that I noticed when we launched the community was people were sharing at a much deeper level than what they do in the Facebook group. I think people automatically felt more comfortable, and I think being off Facebook, because there's so much noise on Facebook, you know, because there's so many other things to drag you away, . PLUS has a much more relaxed kind of vibe about it. People seem much more willing to share it, a deeper level, engage in more meaningful conversations, which is exactly what we hoped the community would be when we created it.

Joining the PLUS Community requires holding a recognised counselling qualification in Australia. We prefer our members to belong to either Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or PACFA. However we also recognise that some qualifications are not eligible .
Eligible qualifications include a Diploma of Counselling, Advanced Diploma of Counselling, Graduate Diploma of Counselling, Bachelor and Masters of Counselling, and equivalent psychotherapy qualifications.
